If you found the quests in Elden Ring difficult to follow or complete, prepare for the worst with Shadow of the Erdtree. While they are much shorter, and take place in a smaller area, it is almost impossible to guess what the consequences of your choices will be.
Miquella’s companions
This ragtag group searching for Miquella contains the stars of the DLC trailer. They are closely tied to the main story of Shadow of the Erdtree, and without giving away anything specific, know that your decisions will have sometimes unexpected, but notable, repercussions at some point in the game. Going in search of Miquella’s Crosses is a good way to encounter them.
Leda, Knight of the Needle
Leda is the leader of Miquella’s followers, she is the one who guides you more or less directly in the story, in person or by leaving messages. But this is a From Software game, and everything ends up going wrong. She can be found at the entrance to the DLC, then at the entrance to Occult Altus. She is also ready to give you a hand on Rallana.
Freyja, Knight of the Red Lion
This valiant warrior served Radahn, before his death during the Festival. Now, Freyja is looking for good fights to fight, while trying to understand what Miquella is trying to do. She is one of the first characters you meet in person in the Shadow Realm, as she awaits you at the first Miquella’s Cross. She can also assist you on the first major boss, the Dancing Lion.
The Kérastien
He is the only member of the group who is originally from the Shadow Realm. The Kerastian holds a great grudge against Marika and Messmer for the massacre of his people. He will assist you by giving you the approximate location of the Miquella Crosses. However, his thirst for revenge may create some problems.
Ansbach, the pure-blooded knight
Ansbach is another demigod servant you just killed, so you have plenty of potential friends in this expansion. He is also a scholar who studies Miquella’s rituals and actions. He is looking for the location of the first Miquella Crosses, while also trying to figure out where Mohg’s body went. You can find him at the entrance to the first major dungeon, Belurat, in the northwest.
Moore
This amiable, heavily armored knight runs a shop near Ansbach and Belurat. Moore is assisted by a swarm of creatures that you learned to hate in the base game, but who will kindly give you recipe books and components if you talk to them. Moore may take this badly if you kill his assistants.
Thiollier
This poisoner is not really following Miquella, but rather one of her past aspects, Saint Trina. As Miquella abandons everything that binds him to the Golden Order, including his body, his fate is uncertain. Thiollier sells various components, as well as poisons in the southeast of the Sepulchral Plains, at the foot of another cross.
Dane Mortefeuille, the warrior monk
This silent character is Miquella’s oldest follower. You won’t interact with him often, but he will leave you a few messages on occasion. You can unlock martial arts by completing Dane Mortefeuille’s quest in Occult Altus.
Other NPCs
Side quests, but still important ones, await you in the corners of the Shadow Realm. They often lead to formidable optional bosses.
Dean Kérastienne
A resident of the Shadow Realm, who has a strong opinion of Marika. Elder Kerastian is hidden in the Belurat Reserve, which is locked. You will need to use the Dancing Lion’s Head helmet, before she will agree to speak to you, and entrust you with her quest.
Dragon Warrior Igon
This dragon hunter encountered in the East of the Grave Plain was badly mutilated by Bayle the Dreadful, the oldest and most terrible of dragons. By accompanying Igon to the Broken Peak, you will be able to face one of the most formidable bosses of the DLC.
Fire Knight Queelign
This NPC is a knight of Messmer who will invade you several times in Belurat and the Crusade Church, which will allow you to obtain nice rewards and a mysterious key to use later. The final step of his quest will allow you to obtain different rewards, depending on the item you give to Queelign.
Priestess of the Draconic Communion
The Draconic Communion Priestess worships Placidusax, who awaits you south of Dragonblight. She also has a grudge against Bayle, and completing her quest will unlock new draconic powers.
Night Swordsman Jolàn
Jolàn is a warrior in the service of Ymir. She can be found in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr after starting the Count’s quests. Her assistance can be valuable on certain bosses like Messmer. Later, she allows you to obtain an excellent katana, or one of the best summoning ashes in the game.
