Amalgam Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: How does weapon fusion work?

Among the new powers that blew us away during the presentation of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, there is of course the Amalgam, an object fusion spell that will give Link the ability to create new weapons from objects found during exploration.

Fuuusion!

Amalgam allows you to merge two components together (not to be confused with Emprise which will be used to link large elements to make vehicles). In Eiji Aonuma’s gameplay demo, he was first seen fighting the new enemy class with a branch, which broke after just a few hits. But by using Amalgam, this branch can be transformed into a much stronger and more powerful club. We can also notice that the increase in the attack statistic is directly shown in the game: from 2 power, the weapon goes to 4.

This is the only data clearly indicated, for durability you will probably have to rely on the same notification as in Zelda Breath of the Wild. Remember, the last blow before the destruction of your weapon necessarily causes critical damage. Objects can also be attached to shields and arrows, for different effects depending on the attached component. The best examples are this mushroom attached to the shield that puts the enemy to sleep when hit, or this eye attached to an arrow that makes it remote controlled.

Combinations and Movesets

We only know very few weapon combinations at the moment, but we can already determine that the weapon movesets will have their importance in the “viability” of your combinations.. You’ll have to keep in mind the range of movements linked to the first object you carry before the fusion with Amalgam. In the two practical cases shown by Mr. Aonuma, we saw a branch that was used as a hammer or a long stick that was used as a spear, even before the fusion with Amalgam. But imagine for a second: the same fork attached to a 2-handed sword, which when charged launches Link into a devastating whirlwind that sweeps 15 cubic meters of land.

The power that will give a new dimension to the fights

No need to draw you a picture, Being able to combine any weapon with any item found on the world map expands the range of possibilities like never before.. In Zelda BotW, only the search for new weapons really linked exploration and combat, even if some outfits offered stat bonuses. In this sequel, it will be necessary not only to find weapons, but also rare components that can give the most smoky active effects. It will certainly be possible to use this component to control the elements, like lightning attracted by Link’s metal equipment, or flames with wind elemental objects. It’s the kind of gameplay mechanic that will already have players thinking about the craziest combinations, even though the game won’t be released in just over a year. month.
