AMD launches Radeon RX 7900 GRE to replace Nvidia’s RTX 4070

Originally reserved for the Chinese market, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE is scheduled to launch globally on February 27, taking Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4070 as a direct competitor.

The graphics card market is now in transition. Nvidia just launched the RTX 40 Super, and AMD is preparing the ground for the next-generation RDNA 4 for the next academic year.

However, it appears that this generation is not completely over for AMD, which has decided to release the RX 7900 GRE globally, a graphics card originally reserved for the Chinese market. In fact, they were so easy to find in other countries that manufacturers began offering them globally.

AMD launches RTX 4070 killer

The RX 7900 GRE uses a scaled down version of the Navi31 chipset used in other AMD 7900 series GPUs. It should therefore sit slightly below the RX 7900 XT in terms of power, and the manufacturer wants it to compete directly with Nvidia’s RTX 4070 in the mid-range.

So, the technical sheet is similar to the manufacturer’s latest graphics card, with 80 computational units, 16 GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 18 Gbps on a 256-bit bus. So we are very close to the RX 7800 XT at a price of 50 euros more.

AMD intended this card for 1440p gaming with high refresh rates and an average of 14% higher performance than this definition according to the manufacturer’s benchmarks (rasterized). Of course, it supports the full AMD HYPR-RX software suite for image creation and especially for taking advantage of FSR 3.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE Pricing and Availability

There are no reference cards for this RX 7900 GRE, which will be released tomorrow, February 27th, at a recommended price of 609.90 euros. You can get it from AMD partners like Acer, ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte, Sapphire, PowerColor, and XFX.
