Black Myth Wukong provides the player with exotic abilities to overcome the many obstacles that await them. The transformations are probably the most original, even if they are not easy to use effectively.
Unlock the first transformation
Upon entering the forest, an NPC will transform you into a golden cicada in order to explore the area, but this is not a form that you will be able to use regularly. You must defeat the first boss of the area, Guangzhithe leader of the local wolves, to unlock a transformation in his image.
How to use Transformation?
- It’s very simple, just press R2 + B/Round by default, or “T” on the keyboard, if you like to suffer. The transformation is instantaneous, and it even comes with an attack. This makes it ideal for use in combat. Your transformation has its own life bar displayed in white, as well as a power bar, in yellow.
- When one of these two bars is exhausted, you automatically return to your original form, with the life you had before. It is therefore an excellent way to face annoying enemies or a boss, without taking any risks.
- As a bonus, the transformation doesn’t even consume mana, meaning you can even use it after you’ve depleted your bar with your other spells. In a prolonged fight, you can use it once at the start of the fight, then a second time after a few minutes.
- Each transformation has its own abilities and attacks. Some cannot dodge for example.
Spirits
As you progress a little further into the forest, you will meet an old Chinese master, who will modify your gourd. It can now capture the spirits of certain enemies. They are recognizable by their blue flames. You can equip a spirit in the inventory, like a piece of equipment. This ability has its own loading bar. It allows you to activate a brief transformation, with a single attack, by pressing L2+R2. There is no separate health bar, but it is still quite useful. You can also upgrade the spirit from an altar. Each spirit also gives you a passive bonus, such as defense.
Additional transformations
As you continue your adventure, you will have other unusual encounters, which will give you new forms to adopt. For example, that of a large block of stone on legs, or an explosive rat. There is one per chapter on average.
The one from the second chapter is obtained by completing the stone man’s side quest. It is therefore possible to miss it.
How to change Transformation?
You have to go to a altar to change the transformation. Choose the Progress line, then the desired shape from the list.
Advancement capabilities
There is a tab dedicated to transformations in Advancement, and you can invest a large number of Sparks in it.
Please note that the large icons in the center of the page are related to specific transformations, which they are named after. They do not apply to Sun Wukong or other forms.
You can put your points into the series of icons at the bottom of the screen, to strengthen different aspects of your Transformations, such as their duration, health, and damage. But unless you want to favor this playstyle to the maximum, it’s probably wiser to put your points into Fundamentals, Martial Arts, and Mysticism first.
