If you played some sort of dragonman in Elden Ring, collecting dragon hearts and breaths, you’ll be happy to see what’s new in Shadow of the Erdtree. New powers, and big dragons await you. You’ll probably be happy to learn a little more about the past of our friend Placidusax, the dragon lord.
Position of the Priest of the Draconic Communion
Reaching this NPC is relatively complex. You must complete the Dragon Pit dungeon, southeast of the Grave Plain. The second exit from the dungeon will take you to the Dragonblight, with two paths. Take the road heading south, which will take you to the Great Draconic Communion Altaras well as to his priestess.
It’s best to collect the South Coast and Abyss map fragments before progressing further. This will give you a clearer view, but also give you the power to take on the challenges that await you.
Should one devour the dragon essence or not touch it?
It’s always scary to be offered this kind of choice in Elden Ring, since the consequences are always unpredictable without going to check the answer online. In this case, it wasn’t justified, since the second answer simply prevents you from progressing in the head, but you can always talk to the priestess again to change your mind. For her part, the first answer doesn’t commit you to anything in practice. It was her way of probing your intentions. Agree to devour the draconic essenceThe priestess will then ask you to go and kill Bayle the Dreadful, at the top of Broken Peak.
Dragons of the Jagged Peak
During your journey to reach Bayle, you will encounter several examples of this recycled enemy. It is almost identical to a normal dragon like Agheel, but with the ability to unleash lightning strikes on occasion. You will need to kill one after entering the Dragonblight area.
After crossing a huge suspension bridge, you will encounter two dragons fighting, and a boss life bar will appear. Kill these stupid lizards to unlock the sequel. You will also naturally unlock the continuation of Igon’s quest. This draconic warrior wants revenge on Bayle, we can say that it is good timing.
Reach Bayle
There is only one path to the Broken Peak, you should not get lost. However, it is exceptionally steep. You will also have to kill Senessax the Elder Dragon on your way. Then take a series of Spiritual Sources with Torrent.
As expected, Bayle is located in the center of Broken Peak, which looks like a huge volcano on the map.
Kill Bayle
To complete the priestess quest, simply kill Bayle, who is one of the most formidable bosses in the game. You can do this with Igon, whose golden summoning mark is present in the room, in order to make your life a little easier.
Awards
After killing the dragon, you will get the Heart of Bayle. Return to the Priestess of the Draconic Communion, a nice surprise awaits you there, since she is… dead. But she left her equipment behind, with a hammer and her dragon heart serving as a reusable consumable. It strengthens draconic incantations.
Obtain the summon of Florissax the ancient dragon
- There is another reward that can be obtained from this questline, but the steps are a little different and you will not obtain the Priestess’ Dragon Heart.
- Start Thiollier and Moore’s quests to deliver the Black Liqueur, and thus obtain the Thiollier Concoction.
- Talk to the Priestess of the Draconic Communion during the Nightwhich will put her into a deep sleep. Wait a while at the grace site, until she wakes up. Then go and talk to her until you exhaust her dialogues.
- You can now kill Bayle. You must summon Igon during the fight.
- After winning, return to speak to the priestess. Admit to putting her to sleepthen agree to become his Lord. You will get the ashes as a reward.
Heart of Bayle
You can also trade Bayle’s Heart for one of the two powers in the nearby Essence Flame. Unfortunately, this means you’ll have to kill him in New Game Plus mode if you want to have both powers on the same character.
