You will have to solve a series of puzzles and trials, in order to obtain one of the legendary weapons of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. The Stone-Sheathed Sword is very special, since it can be obtained at 3 different locations in the gamespecial altars. You can then go and transform it into a Sword of Light, or a Sword of Darkness at one of the other two altars.
Where to find the Stone Scabbard Sword?
It is advisable to collect the Map Fragments and follow our routes, in order to follow the following instructions more easily. As mentioned above, you can find this sword in three different locations:
- Mist Rift Catacombs (North of the Grave Plains): At the top of the series of 3 trap platforms.
- Ruins of Unte (basin at the foot of the Black Castle)
- Ancient Ruins of Rauh (high)
Once there, all you have to do is pick up the Stone-sheathed Sword on the altar. For now, we can say that it is a weapon as ugly as it is disappointing. You will then have to visit one of the two other altars indicated on the map, in order to transform the weapon.
Ruins of Rauh
Proceed through the upper part of the Ruins of Rauh until you pass a Furnace Golem guarding a bridge. Behind it are another set of ruins leading to Romina, Saint of the Bud, as well as the small pile of stones sealing the local Spirit Spring.
You will need to climb into the upper levels of the ruins and follow the edge of the cliff, in order to find the rocks to destroy.
By using this source, you will be able to access new sections of the map with Torrent. This includes a hidden passage, an invisible bridge leading to an isolated tower.
Ruins of Unte
You need to go and wake up the Furnace Golem with the Blood-Drinking Cracked Tear. If you haven’t already, take the Stone Coffin to reach the pool full of golem carcasses.
Throw a Furnace Pot into the sleeping golem’s basket in front of the fort door. This will grant you access to the inside of the building.
In addition to the chest, you will find an altar, which you can interact with. If you don’t have it yet, it will give you the Stone Sheathed Sword.
If the sword is already in your inventory. This will automatically transform the weapon into Sword of Light. The weapon’s damage will change, as will its affinities and skills. If you have the Dark Sword in your inventory, this will convert it as well.
Catacombs of the Misty Rift
This altar is very well hidden too. This dungeon is located in an isolated section of the Isolated Plains, going north from the entrance to Ensis Castle.
Advance into the second section of the dungeon, the one that awaits you after taking the second elevator. You will find yourself in a large hall with 3 giant crushing traps in a row. You must reach the end of the hall, by killing the group of imps and the necromancer positioned high up. Then stand at the edge of the balcony, in order to trigger the trap.
You’ll notice that one of the plates has an alcove that you can enter. Climb inside, to use it as an elevator. Once at the top, go outside to open the chest nearby. Trigger the trap again to climb to the top of the plate this time.
All you have to do now is run over the 3 plates to reach a corridor on the right with the altar.
If you don’t have the sword yet, this will allow you to obtain it. If not, you will be able to obtain the Sword of Darkness.
Sword of Light or Sword of Darkness, which one should you choose?
They have fairly similar stats, the main difference being their unique ability. The Sword of Light will probably be more interesting for most builds. The Sword of Darkness’ ability can increase the Holy damage taken from the target, which also makes it attractive if your build focuses on Holy damage.
In any case, there is no need to worry, since you can transform the sword at will by returning to the altars. THE improvements are even kepta +10 Light Sword will be converted to a +10 Dark Sword.
