With its quests with unpredictable consequences, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree gives players good reason to worry about the endings available, and about the actions to be taken in order to obtain the one they want. You may be a little disappointed. Warning, spoilers below.
Are there multiple endings to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?
The answer is simply: No. One could even argue that there is no real ending. There are many variations of the fight before the final boss, the one against Leda and her allies. And you can also get the help of 2 allies on said final boss, although they risk more penalties in some cases. How the 7 companions will die, and when they will die will change drastically depending on your choices during dialogues and quests. But that’s pretty much it.
What is the ending of Elden Ring DLC?
No matter what, you will kill Leda and her allies, then you will face Radahn, future consort, at the top of Enir Ilim. Miquella will appear as a deity during the second phase to assist him. The end result is always the same, Radahn and Miquella die, and you can simply consult Miquella’s memories in the middle of the area. You can reach the end by following our Route as well as the Recommended Boss Order.
This does not does not unlock of additional ending for the main game. You also cannot ally with Miquella, since you are fundamentally incompatible. Miquella wishes to become a god, but with Radahn as her Consort. Whereas the Shineless one you embody wishes to become Lord of Elden, no matter how, and with whom, whether it be with Marika, Ranni or even the Exalted Flame. In short, you must eliminate Radahn and Miquella who are competing with you, since Miquella will never choose you.
Finishing the main game before starting the DLC has no impact, and vice versa. Ranni will not come and perch on your shoulders to fight Miquella. This is one of the regrets we have with the DLC. Even Melina has absolutely nothing to say to Messmer or about your discoveries in the Shadow Realm.
Incidentally, the corpses of potential allies for the final fight, such as Ansbach and Thiollier, appear in the boss arena. Even without having summoned them, the game seems to consider that they participated in one form or another, and they breathed their last. You can pick up their equipment, with some exclusive rewards.
The Fate of Saint Trina
As far as we know, the only thing that changes after killing the final boss is Saint Trina. You can return to her in the crack of the stone coffins. For the record, when completing Thiollier and Saint Trina’s quest, she asks you to kill Miquella. Now that her mission is accomplished, you will discover that she is dead as well. It can be assumed that the death of her other half, Miquella, also led to her death. Another possibility is simply that her life was meant to be fleeting, like a flower that blooms before withering.
Her head is on the ground, and a unique flower awaits you as a reward. No notable NPCs from the DLC survive, so it’s a happy ending indeed. All that’s left to do is return to hug your Mini Ranni in the Underworld.
