Available since August 30, 2024, Star Wars Outlaws is a new adventure from Ubisoft where you play as Kay Vess, a scoundrel who will have to do everything to earn credits by carrying out the biggest heist in the galaxy. An open-world stealth game, here are some tips to get to grips with it and not get lost in the diversity of things to do.
Prioritize Experts to unlock new skills
Following the main story is obviously essential in order to progress in Outlaws, but it can quickly become frustrating if you don’t have the right skills. Impossible to access a forbidden area without a hacking kit for example, to ride on water with your speeder or to perform double jumps? It’s normal, Kay is still learning and she has everything to learn about the world of smugglers. To obtain new tools and unique skills, you must therefore Get closer to Experts : special characters to find on the different planets and for whom you will have to complete a mission.
Each expert is associated with multiple skillsand you have to complete their challenges to unlock a given skill. The game lets you check the requirements (e.g. defeat X enemies in a specific way) and follow them. Try to unlock useful skills early enough, such as permanently increasing your health bar (Armored Underwear skill).
Don’t put Nix aside
While Kay Vess is literally the main character in Outlaws, the truth is that her creature Nix is much more important. Capable of distract any enemy either by distracting or attacking him, this will give you a definite advantage in every mission. Additionally, Nix is essential for opening doors, bringing you items if you’re in full stealth and can’t access them, or protecting yourself in several ways.
It is possible to improve Nix’s skills and even unlock special meals for him in order to apply a significant boost to him, such as protecting you from grenades for example. But the most useful feature of this little merquaal is undoubtedly the scanner. You can do it at any time, without a cooldown, and it allows you to identify objects to loot highlighted in blue, secret passages or even alarms to deactivate.
Click everywhere
If most things in town are marked on the map and your compassOutlaws still makes a point of having the player explore the large cities and its open world on their own. As a result, many side quests can only be obtained if you are curious: don’t hesitate to go to the Cantinas and answer yes when the game encourages you to “listen” to a conversation or give a few credits to a passerby.
You will then obtain valuable “Information” leading you to side missions. It is also very important to pick up everything you see: objects for sale yes, but also Collectors and some Tablets also giving access to additional missions.
Spend your life squatting
Star Wars Outlaws is a game where you’ll have to sneak around more often than you might think. Kay can easily die in direct encounters – the heroine doesn’t have many hit points by default, and besides, after raising the alarm, reinforcements can appear endlessly. There are also places in the game where being detected means failing the mission objective, meaning you’ll have to start the sequence over again.
Above all, look for opportunities to surprise your opponents : Nix is there for that but Kay can also crouch in the tall grass to camouflage herself, whistle to create a diversion or put her hands in the air to sweet-talk an enemy if necessary.
Explore the depths with the speeder
There are no towers that reveal fragments of the map like in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom for example. Instead, you have to travel to the surface of planets and moons to gradually clear the “fog of war” and the speeder is very useful for this.
Question marks in particular do not appear on the map, but you have to spot them on the compass at the top of the screen. They appear when you are about 150-200 meters from a given location. It is then worth going directly to the location indicated by the compass to find it.
Take on contracts galore
Besides giving you lots of credits (very important in Outlaws), contracts are simply essential for gain reputation with the game’s factions. In truth, it is imperative to get along with most clans if you don’t want to have enemies constantly chasing you or getting banned from districts. Being on bad terms with a faction is also not good for trade since merchants will shut the door on you.
By the way, we advise you to wait until you are in Excellent relationship with a faction before buying anything from its merchants: the prices will drop immediately!
Improve your health quickly
Even if you choose the normal difficulty mode, it can quickly become frustrating to restart a mission from the beginning because you were eliminated due to a too low life bar. At the beginning, Kay Vess only has three small HP gauges that can be filled with Bacta vialsThe problem is that she can only store two on her and even if they are found quite easily, it quickly becomes tedious to find the timing to consume them.
Luckily, some clothing items allow you to increase the number of bacta vials in your inventory. Try to increase the limit to 3 medicines as soon as possible.
Be aware of your surroundings
This is now common in games of this type but if you don’t know where to go, just look at the scenery around you: it will always show you the way. The areas to climb are still marked with yellow foam for example, bars on walls as well and you will even see arrows in the environment discreetly telling you to go in a specific direction.
One of the most common reasons for getting stuck in a particular spot is not having found a location for the grappling hook. Scan the area and look up. The grappling hook can be placed on tree branches, climbing walls, or protruding bars.
Change your weapon!
Although it is very frustrating during the first hours of the game because it is not possible to keep them, you will see that it is possible to change weapons quite regularly during the fights and that it will literally save your life. The blaster can of course be improved to become faster or more efficient but nothing beats the weapons of the stormtroopers or the members of the factions.
You can ask Nix to go steal the weapon directly from the enemies or use it on the stunned bodies of the guards, but be aware that you will lose the weapon if you get on your speeder, climb a ladder or interact with anything else.
Regarding your blaster, remember that it has multiple capacities (to be unlocked gradually) such as the paralyzing shot to avoid being spotted, the explosive shot to destroy rocks or walls, or even the plasma shot against robots.
Don’t forget fast travel
Star Wars Outlaws doesn’t make it clear, but fast travel is available between locations and planets right from the start of the game. So if you want to jump from a main mission to a location you’ve already visited, you can easily do so – and you should. It’ll save you a lot of time and allow you to complete a wide variety of missions, even if they require you to hop from planet to planet and navigate obstacles. Just click on the map, find the nearest fast travel point, and with a single click, travel to your chosen destination.
Please note that this is not possible if you are currently in a restricted area or are being hunted by the Empire.
