Google Maps: this visit to Paris in 1900 is worth the detour

If you dream of seeing what Paris looked like in 1900 during the Universal Exhibition, Google Maps has thought of you. The application launches two immersive experiences in augmented reality (AR). Users will be able to see certain monuments via what Google calls “geospatial augmented reality”.

An original experience

As our colleagues at 01Net, the idea is to integrate virtual objects into the real world by filming it with your smartphone camera. In the Parisian setting, Internet users will be able to do this with two emblematic places: the Eiffel Tower and the banks of the Seine.

The first is visible as it was designed by architect Stephen Sauvestre before its construction. On the latter, you will be able to see the different temporary national pavilions as they appeared during this major international gathering.

The Arts & Culture branch of Google, based in France, which collaborated on this project, pulled out all the stops and allows you to obtain additional information or even share these visuals with your loved ones.

These original experiences based on virtual and augmented reality inevitably make us think of the Vision Pro. Apple’s new headset also offers short immersive videos to its users. This is a rather extraordinary technological feat which allows you to play an 8K 3D video at 180 degrees and which takes over the vision of the device.

Recently, the Cupertino company, for example, launched a new video. As we explained to you in a previous article, this is a 5-minute summary of the Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup which took place in December 2023, for which Apple holds the broadcast rights.
