If it bothers you that Windows updates every 2×3, we have the solution

Windows is the most used operating system in the world. It has a market share of over 80%, meaning it is on 8 out of every 10 computers, although not all of them use the same version of Windows. Right now, the only versions of Windows getting any love from Microsoft are Windows 10 and Windows 11.

However, starting October 14, 2025, Microsoft will stop releasing updates for this version of Windows and focusing its efforts only on Windows 11, so if your computer is not compatible with the most recent version of Windows, go It’s time to think about updating it.

Whether you’re using Windows 10 or your computer is managed by Windows 11, chances are you’re sick to death of messages. windows updates that invite us to install them and restart the computer. Whether we like it or not, Windows being updated periodically is beneficial for users as it allows us to be protected against any vulnerability that has been detected.

When Windows releases an update, it not only does so exclusively to add new features, but the main reason is to introduce security improvements patching the vulnerabilities detected since the last version was released, improving system performance based on the equipment’s hardware and, from time to time, adding the odd new function, although these are usually reserved for H2 updates that are released in the second half of the year.

Fortunately, Microsoft allows users disable automatic updates so that it is the user who installs them when they are not really going to use the equipment. In this way, you prevent your work or leisure time from being interrupted.

How to disable Windows updates

Microsoft allows users to pause temporarily updates for a period of 7 days. After this period, the team activates them again, so it is a temporary solution that requires us to activate it every week.

If we want to deactivate automatic updates in both Windows 10 and Windows 11 forever, we must carry out this process from the Windows Services application by following the steps we show you below.

  • First of all, we access the application Servicessomething we can do from the Windows search box.
  • Next, all system services will be displayed, whether they are running or stopped. Here we must look for the option Windows Update and press twice to access its properties.

  • Finally, we click on Apply and then in Accept. Until we turn the PC off and on again or simply restart it, changes to how Windows automatic updates work will not be applied.

Although it is true that disable updates allows us to forget about Windows information messages, at HardZone we always recommend installing updates as they are available in order to avoid any type of problems with PC security. We can reserve a time and day of the week to check for new updates and install them.
