What’s new for iOS and iPadOS 17.5?

The list of changes is quite slim, but no less interesting. Here’s what we noticed, in addition to the usual bug fixes and security updates:

  • Applications loaded from the web: installing applications from the web is possible on EU iPhones, as explained here
  • Apple News+ (not available in France): addition of a new game, Quartiles and a new offline mode, with automatic downloading of articles
  • Function against unwanted tracking by accessories such as AirTag: a new position tracker type accessory identification system is required, with the possibility of deactivating, on the detected accessory, location sharing with its owner. This is intended to work even for trackers not compatible with the Find My network. See our article on this subject for more details
  • Flag of Jerusalem: iOS 17.5 fixes what appeared to be a bug for the keyboard’s auto-prediction in relation to the Palestinian flag. For example, by typing “Jerusalem” on the keyboard, for some users, iOS could automatically offer the Palestinian flag emoji.
  • iOS design: some minor design changes are there (dynamic color for the Podcasts widget, recently played podcasts visible in Spotlight, new icon for the “access to Passkeys in browsers” option in the settings, change of visual for the bar Books app navigation and reading time)
  • New Pride Wallpapers
  • New Repair State mode: allows a technician to perform a repair on your iPhone without you having to turn off Find My
  • New devices: Support for the new iPad Pro and iPad Air, as well as the new Apple Pencil Pro stylus
