Linux 6.9 is now available with up to 10% more performance on Intel Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” processors

Linux version 6.9 is now available with several improvements, including improved support for AMD Ryzen processors as well as new ones. Intel Core Ultra “Meteor Lake”.

For new generation Intel processors, the P-States management system and Intel’s Energy Performance Preference (EPP) technology have been improved to achieve slightly more performance by adjusting the chip’s power policies. As for AMD, the P-State system of the preferred core of these processors has been improved, in addition to adding future improvements to support AMD RNDA 3+ and RDNA 4 GPUs.

According to the data from the performance tests they have carried out in Phoronix with Meteor Lake, these improvements represent a extra performance that is around 2.6% on average. A fairly low figure, but one that should not be underestimated considering that it is a simple update of the Operating System. In fact, In some specific tests such as AV1 encoding there are improvements of up to 10% extra performance. Naturally, in these cases the temperature and consumption of the processor increases compared to what it had in the previous version 6.8 of Linux.

Overall, consumption has barely increased by 1W, with higher Base speeds but some reduction in peak Boost speed.
