Nostalgia alert for PS1 owners: this game that potentially marked your childhood is literally coming back from the dead with an unexpected announcement.
We could even go so far as to say that it is a double resurrection: on the one hand for this iconic PS1 game, and on the other for a studio that we thought had disappeared for twenty years. As such, with willpower, everything is apparently possible, even for this good old mascot of Sony’s first legendary console.
The unexpected return of a landmark PS1 game announced
This announcement close to necromancy comes to us from Argonaut Games, the British studio to which we owe the legendary Star Fox released on SNES and carried by their revolutionary technology for the time: SNES FX. The studio then lost all its employees in 2004, a large part joining Rocksteady, another now well-known British studio, on the development of Batman Arkham games. But now it returns 20 years later, for an unexpected announcement: an HD remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, expected later this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series!
Released in 1997 on PS1 and Sega Saturn, Croc was a 3D platform game that was a great success on both platforms. It even had a sequel, then a Gameboy Color version. Its remaster developed by Argonaut Games therefore intends to put this PS1 mascot back in the spotlight, with improved graphics, more modern controls, as well as a digital museum called Crocipedia, paying tribute to this license from our childhood and including lost assets from the latter, such as game design documents, concept art and interviews. You can discover what it looks like via the announcement trailer below.
