You have to prepare yourself psychologically, the bosses of the DLC of Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree will become more and more difficult. However, they are not insurmountable with method and training.
Preparations
- You can reach level 4 or even 5 of Shadow Realm Blessings by searching the first area well. This will help you greatly in this fight.
- You can summon 2 golden wraiths to assist you in this fight, but it’s probably not a good idea. The boss has more health in their presence, and she’ll kill them pretty quickly. Unless you can kill her quickly, it’s best to stick to a spirit summon and possibly a wraith.
- As for the choice of spirit summoning, Andreas, Commander of the Black Knights available in one of the first dungeons of the DLC. It is a new summon that takes extremely well once upgraded.
- Rellana’s damage is mostly Physical and Magical. Using the Draconic Shield Talisman, and especially the Antimagic Dragon Talisman +3 found under the castle, will greatly improve your survival.
- Rellana has a excellent resistance to magic damageif you play a Wizard, favor other elements or the Sling spell for example.
- This boss is vulnerable to Lightning damageespecially when she walks in the puddle in the middle of the room, since it applies a penalty to this resistance (but a bonus to fire resistance).
- Rellana’s stance is relatively easy to break, allowing you to deal a critical hit to her afterwards. Attacks and spells that produce this effect are to be favored.
- If you’re not a dodging king, know that it is possible to ward off Rellana’s attacks. The timing is difficult to grasp, however, and it takes two parries to break his posture.
Phase 1
Rellana is a real combine harvester, she is capable of killing any character with a chain of blows, if you don’t manage them well.
It’s best to try to dodge towards Rellana, in order to position yourself behind her. This has the double advantage of helping you avoid the following hits naturally, and allowing you to counterattack. Of course, it’s not that simple, she chains the hits and she pivots quite quickly.
If you’re having too much trouble avoiding all of her hits, an alternative is to keep your distance as much as possible, and counterattack when she finishes her attack combo. She’s then vulnerable for a few moments.
Rellana has 3 main spells during the first phase:
- Shards of Caria : Like the spell you know very well, and that bosses like Loretta use regularly. You can dodge them easily from afar. If you play aggressively, it is also possible to avoid them on contact with certain attacks. After a heavy jump attack on Rellana, your character is crouched with certain weapons, the blades will then pass over your head.
- As a fan of PvP without any originality, Rellana also likes to project moonbeams. A sideways dodge allows you to avoid them. Crouching also works, normally.
- The most devastating attack of this phase is a variation of theCaria Swordfish. She starts with a big vertical blow with almost unlimited range to dodge laterally, then she almost immediately follows up with a side blow that sweeps the entire area. You can dodge it too, or duck. The difficulty lies in the timing, as is often the case. Having a high magic resistance helps mitigate the damage, if you have trouble dodging it.
Phase 2
At around 50% to 66% health, Rellana will stop, then activate the elements on both of her weapons. Take advantage of her long animation to attack her aggressively, there is no need to be polite. Only naive shonen protagonists stop to let the villain prepare his super attack. This will help you shorten this tough fight.
During this phase, Rellana’s attacks get even worse, and she can really kill you in an instant. Shield users are likely to suffer.
His fire sword unlocks two new attacks:
- Fire will float in the air for a few moments, where her sword passed. After a while, this will cause small explosions. Normally, if you try to dodge behind Rellana, this is not a problem. If you are playing with a shield, however, this may catch you off guard.
- The second attack will actually unleash a tornado of fire around her, and then columns of fire will emerge from the ground. The only thing to do is run away, and watch your feet. This is the perfect time to attack from a distance, or to heal yourself.
Her Caria Shards will now spawn many more blades (7), which makes the ability more dangerous, but it doesn’t fundamentally change how it is handled.
Ultimate Attack
When Rellana’s health is low, she will unleash her ultimate attack by flying away. It may be reminiscent of the famous Rennala Moon, but it is a completely different spell in practice.
The moons will crash to the ground one by one, which will trigger an explosion throughout the room. The damage is immense, and you will be thrown into the air if you are hit. In this case, you will also be automatically hit by the following attacks, which can kill you instantly without being able to do anything.
The solution is fortunately quite simple to put into practice: you just have to jump at the right timeevery time a moon crashes into the ground. But be careful, Rellana crashes into the ground next, and she’s a bit faster than the moons, which can catch you off guard, but at least it shouldn’t be deadly.
Awards
No Major Rune in this case, but a Keepsake of the Twin Moon Knight. It’s a bit disappointing on the surface, but by going to the Augur of Fingers at the Round Table, you can buy the magnificent Rellana armor set from him.
Memory of the Knight of the Twin Moons
This may come as a surprise, but you can return to the Round Table to trade memories from the expansion’s bosses. You can even purchase armor pieces from the Augur of Fingers in some cases. Press “RB” from the map.
You have two rewards to choose from:
- Rellana’s Double Blade : Two swords linked to mimic the boss’s fighting style.
- Twin Moons of Rellana : Same ultimate spell as the boss, with two moons hitting the ground. Requires 72 Intelligence to cast.
