Star Wars Outlaws lets you play as a true scoundrel in the galaxy with all that this implies: smuggling, piracy, theft of goods, eventful combats but also games of Sabacc ! A game within a game which is rather difficult to master but we will explain to you how to get to grips with it.
Feel free to consult the interactive map to find all the Sabacc tables on the different planets.
Understanding the rules of the game
Even though Outlaws gives you a pretty clear tutorial when you start your first game of Sabacc, it is essential for you to fully understand the purpose of the rules and keep it in mind throughout.
- Absolute goal : get a pair of sylop (a kind of Joker worth 0) or 1 – 1
- Objective : get the fewest points possible by making a pair of the same number
- Calculation : the result is obtained by taking the difference between your two cards. Thus, if you have a “2” and a “1” in your hand, you will unfortunately have more points than an opponent who has two “4” since the difference between his cards will be zero while yours will be one point.
With that in mind, you should be able to get by. Rounds consist of three rounds of play where you have to do everything you can to get the lowest possible pair (a bit like in President where the “2” is the best card). You can then spend a token to draw a new card or take one from the discard pile.
Please note that you must absolutely have one card of each color in your hand : so be careful if you see a yellow 1 in the discard pile when it is your red 6 that you want to change, it is of no interest.
Get a pair of Sylop
Better than a pair of “1”, there is the pair of “0”, here called “sylop” in the game. It is very difficult to obtain it but having both sylop guarantees victory since no one can do better.
Change game settings
If you have trouble understanding the cards, you should know that it is possible to change the display settings (in the “playability” tab) in order, for example, to change the font and better see the numbers on the cards.
Look carefully at the discard cards
Every time someone (including you) draws a new card, they must then discard another card. On the table, when it is your turn, you will then see 4 piles in front of you: two discard piles on the sides and two draw piles in the middle.
How to use bonus cards correctly
Bonus tokens provide strategic advantages during the game. You can hold up to three at a time, each offering different benefits. The most common, the free draw token, allows you to draw a card without spending a token, giving you a chance to improve your hand without risk.
Understanding the Impostor Card
The value of an imposter card is determined by a dice roll at the end of a turn. Their unpredictable nature can work in your favor or against you depending on the quality of your roll, so keep them in hand with caution. However, there is a penalty that allows the imposter card to be defined with a mandatory value of “6” (to be used on your opponents).
It is possible to cheat
There are several cheating techniques you can use to gain an advantage in the game. One of them is Nix’s ability to peek at an opponent’s cards, allowing you to strategize against their hand. Another useful trick is the double pickaxewhich allows Kay to draw two cards, giving her more options when choosing a card to keep.
Be careful, if you fail the mini-game a certain number of times, you will not be able to play at the same table again for a short period of time.
