Not sure what to do with the torch, candles, and sphere in the Se Papa shrine in Zelda TotK? Here’s how to use your Hindsight power to unlock the various gates and free the chest to complete the temple.

This sanctuary in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom will require you to cleverly use the Retrospective power that allows you to turn back time. Find the video guide above as well as the written and illustrated version below.

Where to find the Se Papa sanctuary?

Head to the right of Hyrule Castle, in the center of the map to find this shrine. It is visible from afar since it is outdoors, so there is no need to look for it for long. You can reach it from the Fort Watchtower.

How to complete it?

  • In the first room, use the power Retrospective on the moving slab to place yourself on it and go back up,
  • In the next room, collect the torch in front of the gate,
  • Then get on the wooden raft in the water and wait for it to get close enough to the other side,
  • You can either use a fire arrow or your torch lit by the candles in the water, in order to ignite the foliage on the wall: this will release the chest,
  • Wait for a new raft and use Retrospect on it to be able to return to the other side,
  • On the way, don’t forget to relight your torch if it goes out,
  • This will allow you to light the two candles in front of the gate in order to open it,
  • In the last room, go right to collect the small ball and place it in the first hole,
  • Take it again to place it in the second hole,
  • Go through the first open door and then, from afar, use Retrospect on the ball so that it goes back into the first hole!
  • This will open the last gate and allow you to access the end of the sanctuary.

Here is a list and a walkthrough of each Zelda TotK side quest on the map. With these many common threads, but also several dozen sanctuary missions, you will have to roll up your sleeves if you intend to get 100%.
