In Star Wars Outlaws, you play as Kay Vess, a young scoundrel who still has a lot to learn but knows how to surround herself with the best. As a major progression system, you will then have to regularly find Experts in the galaxy in order to unlock new skills. Whether for combat, to improve your speeder or to obtain practical tools, it is essential to find all the Experts and recruit them. Here’s how to do it with The Mechanic.
The Mechanic’s Abilities
To unlock new skills, you will not only need to find the Expert in the open world and complete his special quest, but also complete challenges for each ability. As for Selo, the Mechanic, here are the missions to complete for each skill.
Speed boost
- Bonus : allows you to accelerate to speed for a short duration
- Challenge : Simply complete The Mechanic quest to unlock her
Speeder Jump
- Bonus : allows you to perform a jump with the speeder
- Challenge : Perform a 60m long jump without getting thrown off (try to do this where there are jump pads in the open world)
Treasure Hunter
- Bonus : Allows Nix to provide audiovisual cues when containers are present nearby. Additionally, containers within range will now be highlighted by pressing up.
- Challenge 1 : Find 10 containers to open
- Challenge 2 : Find 4 different ways to make Nix happy (you can feed him via a Galactic Street Food, send him to sabotage something, pet him and finally perform a speeder boost)
- Challenge 3 : Call Nix to retrieve an item
Smoke bomb
- Bonus : Press the left and square keys to create a dense area of smoke that blurs the view.
- Challenge 1 : Obtain the Smoke Compressor (follow the clue directly on the Mechanic’s abilities page)
- Challenge 2 : Obtain 7 Polycarbonate
- Challenge 3 : Obtain 3 MG-2 Energy Exceeder
Scoundrel’s bag
- Bonus : Increases the amount of Bacta Vials and Grenades Kay can carry by 1 each.
- Challenge 1 : Find Durafible Fabric (obtained by following the clue indicated directly on the Mechanic’s abilities page)
- Challenge 2 : Obtain 8 Starburst
- Challenge 3 : Obtain 4 Robuma Leather
Outlaw’s Bag
- Bonus : Increases the amount of Bacta Vials and Grenades Kay can carry by 1 each.
- Challenge 1 : Find Stretchy Durafiber Cloth (Obtained from Shuma’s shop at Typhoon Rock in Toshara or Kijimi City)
- Challenge 2 : Obtain 18 Starburst
- Challenge 3 : Obtain 10 Polycarbonate
Where to find Selo Rovak, the Mechanic?
Before you tackle the rest of the main mission on the planet Tosharathe mechanic Waka will ask you to upgrade your speeder. To do this, you will need to find Selo, the mechanic.
- It is imperative to follow the mission asking you to upgrade the speeder to unlock clues allowing you to locate The Mechanic,
- Go to the Jauta store on Toshara and talk to the person behind the counter to learn that you will find your happiness at Kadua Farm,
- Talk to the salespeople on site to get even more information,
- Now head to Selo’s shop to meet The Mechanic: this will unlock her special quest.
Complete the Mechanic’s mission
Selo will ask you to infiltrate an Imperial base to retrieve an atmospheric accelerator. Head northwest of Toshara, as indicated on your map if you’re following the mission.
- To stop the large fan at the tunnel entrance, use the devices received from Selo. Install it on the machinery to the left of the tunnel.
- Use the speeder to the end of the tunnel and use Nix to disable anything that might block your path,
- In the platforming sections, you will need to watch out for fans that activate from time to time. The lights on the sides of the device flash yellow before activation. Do not stand directly in front of an active fan, as the air current will push you into the abyss.
- To progress through some climbing sequences, you’ll need to destroy the fan power supplies. Look for the yellow devices and shoot them with your blaster. Sometimes there will be more than one power supply.
- You can climb the windmills on the yellow grid. In general, most of the surfaces marked in yellow are intended for climbing.
- Once in the control room, interact with the computer and Kay will pull out the part you are interested in.
- After taking the accelerator, you can return to the speeder, leave the wind facility and return to Selo.
- After a short scene, Selo will install a new function on your speeder that will give you a temporary speed boost. You can now proceed to the next main story.
