Techland confirms the retirement of Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition as of September 30th due to how ”big” Dying Light The Beast is

Dying Light: The Beast was conceived as a DLC/expansion for Dying Light 2, which Ultimate Edition owners will be able to get for free… until its removal from digital stores in September.

A new installment of the parkour and zombie saga Dying Light was announced at Gamescom 2024, when no one expected it. Its name is Dying Light: The Beast, and it brings back the character of Kyle Crane in the post-apocalyptic environment of Castor Woods.

Contrary to what many thought, The Beast is not a DLC or expansion from Dying Light 2… although it was conceived as such.

The game will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as a standalone title. Techland has confirmed that will last more than 20 hoursand They went overboard during development.

What you may not know is that Dying Light: The Beast, when it still maintained its DLC status, was offered as an incentive to purchase the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2. Or, failing that, to buy the upgrade to the Ultimate Edition of the game.

Following the announcement of Dying Light: The Beast, Techland confirmed that Owners of this edition would have free access to the gamejust as they promised when it was just a DLC in development, and as a reward for your patience.

Dying Light: The Beast is too big to be “free”

On its official Twitter/X account, Techland has reported that Dying Light 2 Ultimate Editionthe most complete edition of the game (including The Beast), will no longer be available for purchase from September 30, 2024.

The reason is simple: Anyone who purchases this edition would have access at no additional cost to Dying Light: The Beastwhich is no longer a DLC or expansion, but a full-priced game.

It’s a logical decision, but one that hasn’t sat well with some users. They consider it to be part of what they promised at the time, regardless of the fact that The Beast is now much bigger.

Pilgrims, we will be removing the Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Edition upgrade for Dying Light 2 Stay Human from all platforms on September 30. Please note that players who already own the Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Edition upgrade will not be affected.”.
