On the occasion of this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, OnePlus unveiled its new connected watch, the OnePlus Watch 2. If this second version appears to be a follow-up to the first OnePlus Watch released in 2021, however, the Chinese manufacturer has completely revised its copy to make this a particularly interesting watch on paper.

Up to 4 days of battery life

The original OnePlus Watch was equipped with an RTOS system and had some shortcomings at launch, such as not having an Always-On screen, but this new model includes Wear OS in version 4. This is enough for users to take advantage of many features. Applies to applications available on the Google Play Store.

But OnePlus is aware of the biggest drawback of Wear OS connected watches: autonomy. Watches equipped with our system will have difficulty making it past two days, or even one day on certain models.

To solve this problem, OnePlus actually uses two systems within its watch. Wear OS for intensive use, applications for running, and RTOS for background tasks or simple dialing. So we have a system with two processors, each designed to run one or the other of the systems.

So, Wear OS is managed by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip, while the RTOS uses the low-consumption BES2700 processor. According to the manufacturer, it is enough for up to 100 hours of regular use (over 4 days) and 48 hours of intensive use.

The energy-saving mode, based entirely on the RTOS, allows you to enjoy 12 days of autonomy. It is said that 10 minutes of charging can be used to charge for a day, and 1 hour of charging can be used to fully charge. In terms of memory, you can expect 2GB RAM and 32GB storage.

OLED screen, sports measurement and wellness monitoring

As for the screen, the OnePlus Watch has a rather classic round Oled panel, the same as the Apple Watch, with a diameter of 1.43 inches and a density of 326 pixels. The watch case is made of stainless steel with the screen protected by sapphire glass, and the automatic strap (changeable) is made of silicone.

Additionally, the OnePlus Watch 2 features two buttons, including a crown-shaped button on the edge. Unfortunately, rotation is not possible, so the interface is not navigable. The watch is 5 ATM and IP68 certified, so it can be used underwater in shallow water, such as swimming.

Of course, this watch also allows you to measure sports and health data. This watch can track more than 100 sports, including badminton, running, skiing, cycling, and tennis.

For this purpose, we use not only motion sensors, but also heart rate monitors, pulse oximetry, heart rate variability measurements, barometric altimeters or dual-frequency GPS tracking (L1+L5). The watch can also track sleep and stress levels, specifically by measuring HRV.

OnePlus Watch 2 pricing and availability

The OnePlus Watch 2 will be available from March 4th. In France, it is available in two colors: black steel (black) or radiant steel (green). For connectivity, a 4G version is not planned, so you’ll have to use a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/GPS connection to make Bluetooth calls using the speakers and microphone. The watch will be displayed in France at a price of 329 euros.
