It’s easy to develop a love/hate relationship with the Yigas in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. These somewhat dimwitted, yet inventive and dangerous ninjas are reminiscent of Pokémon’s Team Rocket. Your adventure isn’t complete without becoming one of their invaluable officers. There are plenty of great perks, including access to the Suäli Uaqa Sanctuary.
Yiga Officers Test Position
While visiting the various Yiga camps in the game, you will often come across a journal mentioning the Officers’ Contest, as well as the fact that it is located behind the Gerudo Canyon waterfall. If you haven’t already, we recommend that you start by unlocking the Canyon Reconnaissance Tower, it is an ideal teleportation point to reach the location, to farm Rubies on rare bosses hidden nearby, and for the rest of the quest. The coordinates of the base are at -2523, -1772, 0131. After crossing the suspension bridge, look for a red door, with 2 toad statues.
There is, however, one overriding requirement to enter this base: you must have equipped the entire Yiga outfit, which is quite an adventure in itself. Find out how to do this in the guide below, if you don’t already have it. Otherwise, the gatekeeper will refuse to let you pass.
Pass the officer test
Once in the base, speak to Officer Yiga, he will task you with dropping bananas on 5 altars in Gerudo Canyon. He will also provide you with the bananas. Unless you eat or lose them, you will not need to find more. This trial is not particularly difficult, although it is quite long. Using the Reconnaissance Tower to quickly glide to each point, there are not many difficult ones to reach. The temperature changes are certainly the most difficult to deal with, with the heat during the day, and the cold at night, but you will probably be happy to know that you do not need to keep the Yiga Outfit equipped during the trial. Just change when you get back to the Yigas base.
The location of the altars is marked on the map if you enable quest tracking. We won’t note them down for you again, instead, here are some tips and tricks, to reach the most difficult ones.
You will also have to perform the same action each time, once you arrive at your destination: open your inventory, carry a banana, as if you were cooking, then place it in the bowl in front of the frog. It must be inside. The banana will disappear, and a small animation will start to indicate that you have placed it correctly.
- The westernmost altar is in a cave full of monsters, including a large group of goblins with a leader. You don’t have to kill them to activate the altar.
- The frog to the north is also in a tunnel, but it is easily accessible.
- The frog to the east is at the edge of an area surrounded by a bog. There is another rare Lithorok there, very profitable to kill, but if you prefer to avoid the fight, just approach the altar from the west, avoiding going past it.
Once all the altars are activated, you can return to the Yigas base, equipping the outfit again. The officer will then unlock the door behind him. A funny detail is that by removing your outfit between the front door and the officer, he will find you familiar, without recognizing you. He therefore does not start the fight.
Awards
In the next room, you will find a Raw Ruby in a chest, a quality Yiga Saber of Defiance, and most importantly, access to the sanctuary. There is no test to pass inside, you simply have to enter to obtain an additional chest and an Orb of Light.
If you want to learn the secret technique of Earth Shock, you are in the wrong base. You need to go to the Yiga Lair, in the Gerudo Highlands.
