Elden Ring has brought back the difficulty in its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and even minor bosses are likely to spank you in combat. From the first region, the Black Gaol Knight, the Death Knight and Yosh can give you a bad time. The latter shows the potential Boc could have had with a sword in his hand.
Yosh’s Position
This boss, and his summon, can be found deep in the Belurat Prison dungeon, north of the Shadow Realm’s Grave Plain.
Preparations
- You can reach level 4 or even 5 of Shadow Realm Blessings by searching the first area well. This will help you greatly in this fight.
- As always, a spirit summoning will help you greatly. Mimicry is a simple solution to almost all your problems.
- This boss’s damage is mostly physical. Talismans and buffs that can reduce this damage will significantly help you survive. We’re thinking of the Draconic Shield Talisman and the Boiled Crab for example. Remember to put the Opaline solidified tear in your Vial of Miraculous Salvation, in order to gain survivability for a long period of time. Yosh also appears to deal magical damage with his blade.
Strategy
The fight against Yosh is very intense, and it can be simple, or extremely difficult depending on your build and your playstyle. Indeed, this boss is particularly aggressive, and he can inflict long combos of devastating attacks on you, while teleporting in all directions. Playing defensively and chaining rolls will give him the opportunity to continue his attacks.
The solution is quite simple, you just have to exploit his main weakness. The fact that Yosh has a ridiculously weak posture. The slightest blow will make him flinch, which will interrupt the action he was currently performing. It is quite easy to tackle him to the ground too. Rather than trying to hit him with a big blow, or a big spell, use your fastest attack, capable of hitting him instantly, for example the spell Caria Slicerwhich you can use in a loop, which will completely lock him out until your stamina is depleted.
Focus on rolling forward, or doing a diagonal forward, to dodge Yosh’s attacks, in order to end up behind him. This will prevent him from using his long attack combos. He will be forced to turn around, which will give you the opportunity to attack.
When Yosh’s hand glows with a blueish glow, if you don’t have an extremely fast attack available to interrupt it, you absolutely must dodge or you’ll be grabbed and humiliated in the air.
Yosh’s big downward air attack is also formidable, he can teleport above you, from any position. It is even possible for him to immediately engage in combat in this way. Some vertical attacks allow you to interrupt his downward attack, but this depends greatly on your weapon.
When Yosh’s weapon glows white, back away as quickly as possible to avoid his ultimate attack, a large area of blades.
Awards
Yosh will leave you his Spirit Ash Summon as a reward, allowing you to call upon him in combat. This is a formidable summon, as it is very agile, fast and aggressive. Its teleports are even more effective on AI-controlled enemies than on you. On the other hand, Yosh is quite easy, it is best to avoid using it on bosses that use area attacks.
