YouTube to eliminate 100 employees as layoffs at Google continue

There was another series of layoffs Google, this time on his video-sharing platform YouTube. The company will cut 100 employees, a spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch. Last week, Google laid off more than 1,000 employees across multiple departments, including engineering, services and its voice-activated product Google Assistant.

“As we said, we are investing responsibly in our company’s biggest priorities and the significant opportunities that lie ahead,” a Google spokesperson said in a provided statement. “To best position ourselves for these opportunities, in the second half of 2023, some of our teams made changes to become more efficient and perform better, aligning their resources with their biggest product priorities. Some teams continue to make such organizational changes, which include eliminating some roles around the world.”

Originally reported by Tube filterMary Ellen Coe, YouTube’s chief business officer, wrote in an internal memo to staff Wednesday afternoon that the job cuts were part of the restructuring of YouTuber’s management and operations teams.

The 100 affected employees apparently have the opportunity to apply for other positions at YouTube, but this does not necessarily mean a guaranteed position in the company. Accordingly The New York TimesWorkers have 60 days to find a new job before their layoffs officially take effect.

“We continue to support all affected employees as they seek new roles here at Google and beyond,” the spokesperson added.
