Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Chili Pepper: Best Cold-Proof Recipe, Where to Find It

In Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, just like in the first opus on Switch, you will quickly have to know how to protect yourself from the cold in order to explore mountains and other snowy valleys. And if fire is your most faithful ally, you will quickly understand that chili is a much better one.

Where to find chili pepper on the Hyrule map?

Now that the kingdom is explorable vertically, with the depths and the sky islands, it is even more difficult to get lost than in Breath of the Wild and not know where the resources you no longer need are hidden.

Here’s an interactive map (powered by MapGenie) showing you exactly where to find chili peppers on the Sky Island in the early game’s Prelude. Most of the plants are east of the large Temple of Time and just pick up the red peppers that grow (always in threes). This is where you will find the most peppers so don’t hesitate to use teleportation to return there regularly: the resources reappear after a few in-game days.

On the surface, you will also find chili peppers in the central region, around the Fort Guet for example. Don’t hesitate to search the houses as well and the Relays. Later, as you progress in the game (and just like in BotW), you will be able to unlock an additional feature thanks to your camera: the one allowing you to locate a specific resource.

How to cook cold-resistant dishes?

Now that you have some peppers in your possession, it’s time to cook the ingredient. There are several ways to resist the cold in TotK, such as remedies, a cold-proof outfit (which you can buy at the Piaf Village in Hebra), or fire. But clothes are expensive and fire is always temporary. So the best way is to prepare some dishes using peppers!

  • Pikpik sautéed peppers : Simply put 1 to 5 peppers in the pot. The anti-cold effect depends on the number of peppers put in. (1 pepper = 2 min 30)
  • Pikpik fruit chutney : 1 apple + 1 chili pepper + 1 celestial mushroom. The anti-cold effect lasts 3 min 30.
  • Fruit and mushroom pikpik plate : 1 chili pepper + 2 mushrooms. The anti-cold effect lasts 3:30.

The best dish remains the first one by putting 5 peppers for an anti-cold duration of 12 minutes 30 !

Additional tips for exploring Hebra:

  • Remember that you can make a fire at any time by taking out a bundle of wood and a flint from your inventory. Place them on the ground and hit the flint with a metal weapon (e.g. sword),
  • Thanks to sonneau technology, you can use a portable pot at any time and therefore cook anti-cold dishes whenever you want,
  • Be careful, the fire fruit used in cooking will give you a fire attack effect.
