Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Fossil: Where to Find the Three Large Whale Fossils and How to Repair Them?

Three new missions await you in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom to investigateancient whale fossils. The mystery was already present in Breath of the Wild without players being able to do anything with archaeological excavations. This time, it is possible to address Moonright next to the tent a few meters north of the Relais d’Akkala Est.

Talk to him to trigger the first mission: the great fossil of Ordinn.

The Great Ordinn Fossil: Where is the Whale’s Eye?

The first fossil is located in the far north of the map, in the Ordinn region. You can start from the Tower of the Ruins of the Obscurities if you wish. Lune will show you the exact location on your map, and for this one, just look below the mountainat the very edge of the open world. You will then see a large skeleton on the ground and a fire: approach the latter to speak to Lune who will ask you to put the whale’s right eye back in his place.

The eye is located directly below the skeleton! Go to the center to go under and you will see a rocky pile with a sphere inside. You just need to craft a stony mallet (weapon + a rock) to destroy the obstruction and free the eye. Then grab it with Grip to take it directly into its orbit: it will automatically go inside.

Talk to Lune again to get your reward: 50 rupees and the location of the next fossil.

The Great Hebra Fossil: Where to Find the Vertebra and Phalanx?

Again, follow the yellow dot indicated on the map, in the upper left region (Hebra). The Ruta Fuume sanctuary is one of the closest.

This time, you will have to go down as low as possible to find the entrance to a cave (a blue rabbit can guide you there). Then locate the fire inside to talk to Lune who will ask you to repair the whale fossil with a vertebra and a phalanx.

  • There phalanx is stuck to the left wall in the cave. You have to break the rock mass to free it and then transport it, with Emprise, to its location near Lune,
  • There vertebrate is at the bottom right of the cave, in a block of ice. Create a campfire (bundle of wood + flint and hit it with a metal weapon) to melt it. Collect the bone inside with Grip and place it on the back of the whale.

Then return to Lune to get your reward: 50 rubies and the location of the next fossil.

The Great Desert Fossil Gerudo

This is the most complex fossil of the three to obtain since it is found in the terrible misty desert of Gerudo. The sandstorm prevents you from seeing your position and you have to navigate almost in the dark: use the tornadoes to go back up into the sky as well as a competition raft and locate the yellow marker.

Once there, you will see a tent and a rabbit indicating the entrance to a cave. Enter it to speak to Lune who will ask you to reconstruct the baby whale next to its mother.

You will first need to use the Infiltration power to get to the mother whale’s skull. Once up there, look at the ceiling to see a rock pile that contains part of the baby’s skeleton. Use an arrow with a bomb to free it. It will then fall to the ground and you can retrieve it with Grip to attach it to the head: this is not automatic for once, you have to manually glue the two pieces together.

There tail is buried in the sand, to the right of the pond with the little fairies. To remove the sand, you can use the Turbine which is located to the left of the pond: use Grip on it to detach it. Tap on it to make wind come out and pick it up to take it in front of the sand mounds. Once the tail is free, stick it well to the back of the whale calf to validate and complete the quest.
