AMD improves its best processor

One of the best processors that we can currently find on the market focused on the gaming public, we find it in the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, a processor with 16 cores and 32 threads along with 128 MB of L3 cache. However, it seems that AMD is not satisfied with 128 MB of L3 cache and is studying the possibility of launching a model with up to 192 MB.

At least that is what a video published on the Chinese Bilibili network seems to indicate. In this video, we can see how a user claims to have had access to an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor with 192 MB L3 cachewhich is 64 MB more than usual, which, as we mentioned above, is 128 MB.

As we can see in the video, the user is not sure if it is an error in the program used, CPU-Z, or if it really is a processor that is not available on the market. Unfortunately, this does not specify where it got the processor from, so it opens the door to all kinds of speculation.

More cache in the Ryzen 9 7950X3D

By not establishing the origin of the processor, it is logical to think about all kinds of speculations. The first is that it is a processor that AMD tested and discarded. If you finally discarded it, it means that it may have some performance problem or temperature in the long term and that, with current dissipation solutions, is not enough to lower its working temperature.

The second, which we have already mentioned, is that it is a application error CPU-Z, however, appears to not really be the case, as Windows Task Manager also recognizes that same amount of L3 cache.

It is possible that the Windows detection system is failing and misleading both the operating system and the application used, although this is very unlikely. If we look at the following screenshot, we see how the user has installed Windows 10 on the computer with this processor, so it is possible that this version of Windows could be the culprit of a hypothetical unreal reading.

AMD Ryzen 9 with 192 MB cache

There is a possibility that this processor can incorporate up to 192 MB of L3 cache by playing with the chiplet configuration by adding a third 64 MB CCD that would be added to the two 64 MB that the processor already includes.

Will it reach the market?

AMD launched this processor on the market in February 2023 and did so with the 128 MB configuration. It is possible that, over the last year, you have tried a new configuration with more cache.

However, taking into account that the company is scheduled to present the Ryzen 9000 range at Computex, the possibility of this chip reaching the market is quite remote.

A larger L3 cache represents an improvement in performance, however, it implies modifying the traditional uniformity of the cache and generating greater latency. An example is found in how the performance of Ryzen 7 7800X3D It is superior to the Ryzen 9 7950X3D.
