Apple would be preparing a change in the lineup of the iPhone what would it entail removal of the Plus variant and its replacement with a new model. According to 9to5Macanalyst Jeff Pu believes that this modification would become effective from 2025 with the introduction of an assumption iPhone 17 Slim.
If confirmed, the iPhone 16 Plus would be the third and final generation of this version, which was introduced in 2022 as a replacement for the iPhone mini. The iPhone 17 Slim would introduce a slimmer design and would have a somewhat smaller screen than the 6.7-inch screen that the model it would supplant today has.
Ross Young, an analyst specializing in the display supply chain, says that the supposed iPhone 17 Slim would introduce a panel of 6.55 inches. This would not be the only change in dimensions that would be seen in the Apple phones of 2025, since, according to Pu, the iPhone 17 Pro would grow to 6.3 inches.
As we always say, these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. We’re still several months away from the launch of the iPhone 16, so Apple’s supposed plans for next year could be subject to major changes. Of course, if the Plus version finally ceases to exist, it will be confirmation that its commercial performance has been very poor.
The iPhone 17 Slim would replace the Plus version
When Apple introduced the iPhone 14 Plus, it generated quite a bit of hype. However, This did not translate into higher sales.. Something similar happened later with the iPhone 15 Plus, which was relegated to a secondary level in the interest of users. If those from Cupertino plan to change their lineup again starting with the iPhone 17 with the introduction of the Slim version, we would have to see what possible benefits it would bring compared to the other three variants of the family.
If Pu’s information is reliable, the supposed iPhone 17 Slim would maintain the tone of the iPhone Plus; that is to say, would offer the same technical features of the standard iPhone but in a larger “package”.
The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim would arrive with 8 GB of RAM and an A18 or A19 chip. While the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max would have 12 GB of RAM and an A19 Pro chip. And all four would have a 24-megapixel front camera. Another novelty of the Pro Max of 2025 would be the inclusion of a “narrower” Dynamic Island than that of the other models. However, the reason for this apparent change is not indicated.
It is also speculated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would maintain the titanium chassis, while the standard, Slim and Pro would continue with aluminum. We’ll see if any of this materializes. If the rumors are correct, the iPhone 16 Plus would mark the farewell of a version with a forgettable passage through the market.
