Google Chrome will divide any video on a website into chapters, like YouTube

The different content in the form of videos that we find on many of the websites that we visit from our browser are increasingly common. Hence, developers try to improve the playback experience, as is now happening with Google Chrome.

There are certain websites especially indicated for these tasks, we refer to the viewing videos via streaming. But at the same time we find many other pages focused on other content and that include videos in the form of complements for certain information, for example. Hence precisely why the search giant is currently working on a new function focused on this content.

At first we will tell you that it is a feature that users should take advantage of. web developers for the benefit of users. Basically, what this means is that Google is working on a new feature for its Chrome browser that allows video editors add chapters to embedded content on websites. So that we understand it better, its operation will be similar to what we currently find in some of the videos of the popular YouTube website.

As the development company itself informs us, this is a new feature that is part of the Media Session API. For those of you who don’t know, this is where the metadata used by a website’s user interface to display titles, artists, and other content information is stored. This means that from now on developers will have the possibility to add custom chapters here.

This is how we will see the chapters in the Chrome videos

We must take into consideration that these video chapters, which we are talking about, divide the content as such in different sections. In this way, each of them will have its own preview, all in order to help website visitors find and revisit specific parts with the greatest of ease.

This is something that for some time now we can already see in the popular streaming platform from YouTube, also owned by Google. Here content creators have the option of adding chapters manually or relying on the platform to create them automatically. Well, this is something that will reach almost all of the videos that we find on all types of websites when using Chrome.

What Google does now is use the MediaMetadata interface to offer the same function to other websites that include embedded videos. In turn, the search giant notes that this Chrome feature will be added to the blink layer. All this we tell you means that content creators and web developers will be able to add the ChapterInformation attribute to the existing MediaMetadata configurations. It’s worth noting that this will work for both audio and video.

In short, the new functionality will allow Chrome users to scroll through videos on websites more quickly and effectively.
