But there is a manufacturer that is also willing to offer users an alternative that is not only attractive in price and features, but also in design. The best of Motorola Edge 50 Pro
There is no doubt that one of the most striking points of this Motorola Edge 50 Pro is its design. And, especially, its rear. The company has opted for different finishes, in which one made of real wood stands out —although treated to prevent damage over time—. This not only makes the Edge 50 Pro have a unique design compared to other smartphones, but also makes each unit of the same model completely different, since no piece of wood follows the same pattern.
To the touch, the feeling is like holding a piece of this material: it is soft, very soft, and the matte aluminum frames that are slightly curved make the grip much more comfortable.
It’s comfortable, but is it pretty? It depends on your tastes. In my opinion, a wooden back on a smartphone is a bit ostentatious. It also bothers me that the photographic module also has this same finish. Even so, there is no doubt that it is something very striking. In addition, and for those of us who prefer more sober designs, Motorola sells other variants of this Edge 50 Pro in vegan leather and in different colors, including one in collaboration with Pantone.
A screen with its pros and cons
The design is complemented by an excellent screen, one of the best we have seen in this price range. The Edge 50 Pro, specifically, mounts a panel 6.7-inch P-OLED with a Full HD+ resolution and a 165 Hz refresh rate. It is a bright, extremely sharp and very colorful screen. The high refresh rate also offers a slightly superior experience when navigating the interface, although it is true that there is not that much difference compared to the 120 Hz of other phones.
Of course, the screen has a small negative point: its curvature. Motorola has chosen to include a curved glass on the edges that, although it gives a feeling of depth when using the smartphone, is more of an inconvenience for several reasons. On the one hand, it creates a kind of shading when the panel is reproducing white tones. On the other hand, it makes it somewhat annoying when performing some actions. For example, resizing widgets is almost impossible, because the point that allows you to expand or shrink the widget is right in the curvature area.
What you should not overlook about the Motorola Edge 50 Pro
The camera is another of the most interesting points of this Motorola Edge 50 Pro. Mainly, because of its configuration. The Motorola smartphone has a triple lens whose sensor main is 50 megapixels. It is accompanied by a second 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, as well as a third sensor, in this case a telephoto lens, of 10 megapixels capable of taking photographs at 3x optical zoom.
It is a good camera; very good when lighting conditions are acceptable. The results, in general terms, have a correct interpretation of colors, adequate exposure and good detail. However, it is not a camera that stands out above its competition. This, of course, does not mean that it is bad, far from it. But it is true that there are other mobile phones – see the Pixel 8, available for 600 euros – that offer better results.
Now where the Motorola Edge 50 Pro chest out is in the telephoto lens. The 10 megapixel sensor does an excellent job, allowing colorful, very bright images with convincing detail. Let us remember that this sensor can shoot with an optical zoom of up to three times, but allows a 30x digital crop, in case we need it on occasion, although this, as usual, usually loses a lot of detail.
In addition to the telephoto lens, there is another point that I liked about the camera of this Edge 50 Pro: its versatility. Motorola has included different modes and functions in its application that are quite useful, such as one to take frame photos or a fairly intuitive pro mode.
And speaking of the camera application – which is Motorola’s own – the software of this Edge 50 Pro is also worth mentioning. It is a kind of personalization layer that works under Android 14, but it barely has the odd addition from the brand. The interface, in fact, is very similar to Pure Android (to the Android of the Pixel), which is appreciated. It also has many customization options and is quite fluid.
How is the performance and battery?
The Motorola terminal is equipped with a processor Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 from the American Qualcomm, which is accompanied by 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. And it works quite well. It allows you to run any application or game without problem, and during the tests we have not experienced any significant cuts or slowdowns.
Regarding autonomy; no complaints. The 4,500 mAh They behave quite well, although it is true that in moments of more intensive use I have missed a little more capacity. In any case, the terminal comes equipped with a 125 W charger.
Worth?
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is a mobile phone with a unique design, an excellent screen despite the drawback of the curvature and with a camera that, although it is not up to par with other mobile phones in this price range, does meet its requirements in terms of versatility. If you are looking for a mobile phone with a different look and that excels in the multimedia section, this Edge 50 Pro is a very good option. I would wait, however, for its price to drop a little – it will most likely do so in the coming months. In any case, we must not forget that there are currently very attractive options for a lower price than this. The Nothing Phone (2), which also has a very different design, is one of them; It is available for about 550 euros. So is the Pixel 8, available for about 600 euros.
