Do you know about SFF PCs? Nvidia wants to create an ecosystem of GeForce PCs around this compact machine format. Enough to compete more effectively with the appeal of game consoles.
Nvidia has a new project for gaming PCs equipped with GeForce graphics cards: the SFF (Small Form Factor) format. Behind this acronym hide very compact format computers, like the Corsair One or Apple’s Mac Mini.
The right partners
The SFF format has gained popularity in recent years to move away from old gray towers that take up a lot of space on our desks. But creating a mini PC capable of playing video games is not a trivial task. The less volume, the less room for efficient cooling.
The site WCCFTech reports that Nvidia is seeking to surround itself with partners in the field of graphics cards, but also that of cases, power supplies and cooling systems, to create an ecosystem of gaming PCs in SFF format.
The goal would be for Nvidia to draw up specifications for manufacturers in order to create a label “ SFF Enthusiast GeForce » on compliant products. Consumers would thus be guided to find components compatible with each other, and especially with the use of a fast graphics card.
The creation of ultra-compact PCs could also make these machines attractive alternatives to game consoles. Particularly if Microsoft ends up offering a console interface for Windows on this type of device, or on portable PC consoles.
Fortunately, the project does not seem to create a new proprietary format competing with the ITX standard, but rather to harmonize with it. We could have feared that Nvidia was attempting to privatize part of the PC ecosystem, but at this stage, it is more of a simple label. Nothing will prevent you from integrating an AMD Radeon graphics card into a case. SFF Enthusiast GeForce “.
