The Google Pixel Tablet arrives in Spain

In three days it will be one year since the presentation, at Google I/O 2023, of the Pixel Tablet, a device that was quite interesting to us from the first moment for several reasons, which I will focus on later. Thus, as my colleague Juan said when echoing said launch, we were faced with a tablet that arrived on the market to confront the all-powerful Apple iPad, thus bringing a little joy to a market, that of mid-high and high-end tablets.

The bad news was that Pixel Tablet was initially aimed exclusively at the US market. This is understandable, since this is a first generation (with all that this entails), it is understood that Google would like to limit its reach, I understand that with an eye on its jump to other markets later. This, in combination with the many rumors that have occurred in recent times, invited us to think that the technology company would present its new generation at the very close Google I/O 2024, and that it would debut, from day one, in more markets.

Today, however, we have found a surprise, and that is that along with the announcement of the Pixel 8a, Google has also told us that the Pixel Tablet makes the leap to the international market, thus arriving in Spain. Thus, it now seems very unlikely that the announcement of the new generation will occur in the short term, since it would be somewhat surprising if Google decided to maintain different versions for the US market and the rest.

As we see when reviewing its specifications, We are faced with a tablet that is between the mid-range and the mid-high range., a space that, as I mentioned previously, has been quite neglected by the industry, despite the fact that it actually has enormous development potential if the right conditions are met. Thus, and as we already told you when it was launched in the US, we may find ourselves facing the strongest rival that the iPads face (not the Air or the Pro, of course, the “standard” iPad), as long as Google know how to play your cards well.

Among the reasons that make the Pixel Tablet so interesting, I must undoubtedly start by highlighting its great differentiating factor with respect to the rest of the market, the base that was included with all tablets when they debuted, and which now becomes an optional accessory. This base acts as a charging station, a support for passive use of the tablet, a speaker (which offers a great improvement, especially in terms of bass reproduction, compared to the speakers integrated into the tablet) and In addition, it allows the device to be used as a central controller of a home infrastructure connected through Google Home. Google takes a good step by making it an option, as this allows the price of the Pixel Tablet to be adjusted, but, personally, I think that the best option is the one made up of the tablet and the base.

Another notable element is, of course, its integration with the rest of the Pixel ecosystem and Google products and services. One of the cards played exceptionally well by Apple has been the construction of a very well cohesive ecosystem, something that Google is replicating very well, and that can achieve a much greater reach, given both the growth of the Pixel family and, above all, the enormous level of implementation of Google services.

Another more than notable feature of this Pixel Tablet is that includes a Chromecast, which means that in combination with the multifunction base we can use it, remotely, to play content sent from other devices. On the other hand, during the time since its launch Google has been working with developers so that they optimize their apps for the Pixel Tablet, which undoubtedly represents a significant improvement compared to its initial state, that is, when its launch occurred. launch.

We are talking about a device from the Pixel family, so Google also focuses on its capabilities in relation to artificial intelligence and the functions that are based on it. Let us remember, in this sense, that the Pixel Tablet has the same SoC and the same RAM memory as the Pixel 7 and 7a, two models that have already received a good part of the AI functions that are also present in the Pixel 8 generation, for example. so we can expect something similar for Pixel Tablet. And in this regard, Google has confirmed the upcoming arrival of Circle to Search on the tablet.
