Future of the iPhone: Apple could abandon iPhone Plus and Dynamic Island

New rumors concerning the iPhone 17 have just been spread on the web. The opportunity to take stock of the future of Apple smartphones. It is true that there is still time before the iPhone 17 is marketed by Apple, but the firm and its partners have already started the project.

As a result, several pieces of information regularly leak from the supply chain. We know, for example, that the iPhone 17 range could be entitled to a screen refresh rate in its basic version. This thanks to the ProMotion Technology from Apple, which can reach 120 Hz. This technology has been available since the iPhone 13, but only for the Pro versions.

A second rumor circulating is a change regarding Dynamic Island. While some have claimed that Apple could abandon it from the iPhone 17, we finally learned that the island could remain on the iPhone for a few more years, but in a new design for the Pro Max.

Smaller ?

In a new report from analyst Jeff Pu, we learn that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would have a smaller “Dynamic Island”. It would be possible thanks to “metalens” technologyWho significantly reduces the size of the FaceID sensorwhich is the reason for the current size of the islet.

On the iPhone 17, 17 Plus and 17 Pro, Dynamic Island should stay the same size. According to rumors, the iPhone 18 could continue to offer the little black capsule, but the following year, however, it could disappear. This is to make room for sensors under screens, whether for the camera or FaceID.

Different screen sizes and an iPhone Slim

Jeff Pu also talks about screen size in his analysis. According to him, we could expect the following formats:

  • iPhone 17: 6.1-inch screen
  • iPhone 17 Slim: 6.6-inch screen
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3-inch screen
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9-inch screen

As you can see, the list does not include an iPhone 17 Plus, which is expected to be discontinued by Apple. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 should also benefit from new technology for its screen, in order to catch up with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
