Microsoft closes 4 video game studios, did it buy them to close them?

Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog and Roundhouse have closed, the 4 game studios that Microsoft bought within Bethesda.

Bad news for many who had faith in these video game studios because they have closed them since they were acquired by Bill Gates’ studios. For now, it seems that Roundhouse Games is “saved” because its workers will continue at Microsoft Bethesda, if that’s what it’s worth. The catastrophe is for Tango, Arkane and Alpha Dog.

Microsoft has closed 4 video game studios and it is difficult to understand it

After acquiring video game studios, it seems that Microsoft has tightened its belt and deleted 4 of them. Are Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios and Roundhousewith the exception that Roundhouse employees will remain at Microsoft/Bethesda.

It didn’t matter that Ghostwire Tokyo was a success for Xbox in 2023, assuming Shinji Mikami’s loss of leadership was crucial. In the case of Arkane, it seems that it is simply a financial issue and lack of success, even though Redfall or Prey were good titles at the time. Alpha Dog has died without ideas of success on iOS or Android, so it was a death almost announced.

The point of all this is that Microsoft has been buying game studios to improve the catalog of Xbox. Years later, they have thrown that strategy overboard to “give value to shareholders”, making them see that profits have improved.

You can generate more income, but at Microsoft they have chosen to pass the rope and cut expenses. This is a true reflection of what is happening in the video game industry, a sector that seems stagnant, has few ideas and the real way to make money is to exploit successful franchises like Fallout or CoD.

This is what Bethesda has done with the new Fallout series, which I recommend because it is quite good (in my opinion). It seems that no one remembers anymore that Fallout 76 was a complete disaster.
