It looks like a smart speaker, but it’s really an 8TB external SSD

The storage capacities that we can currently find in the various hard drives and drives can be extremely large, often providing space that would be difficult to occupy. Western Digital has presented its new unit SSD externalwith two capacities, 4TB and 8TBalong with a design that resembles a smart speaker more than an external storage unit.

Being one of the companies that dominates the storage device market, Western Digital has presented a large number of new features that have improved the way we view storage devices in recent years. In this case, its subsidiary SanDisk has presented a new SSD drive that comes with extremely high capacity and speeds, along with several promises from the parent company about the storage capacities of SSDs in the coming years.

This SSD has capacity for everything you need

Among all the drives and disks that we can find to store our data, there are those external devices that allow us to store any type of information in a simple and secure way, offering us the possibility of transporting our data anywhere. We could choose to use other types of systems such as cloud storage, but if we had to access our data without an internet connection, this would be a fairly big problem.

So, in the end one of the best options we have is to get a unit external portable, as is the case of the new product presented by SanDisk, a subsidiary of Western Digital. This new drive can be found in two sizes, both 4 TB and 8 TB, along with speeds of 1,000 MB/s, which makes them ideal for transferring large files, in a relatively low time considering that it is an external drive.

The connection via USB-C makes it compatible with most devices, offering full compatibility with Windows and macOS thanks to its exFAT format, making the only negative point we can find is the price, since the 4 TB SSD unit It has a starting price of €431, while the 8 TB one has a price of €787.

Western Digital’s promises, 16 TB SSD drives

Another novelty that Western Digital has presented is the promise they have made, indicating that next year they want to further expand the capacity of their SSD units, offering double what there is currently. This implies that the company wants to create units SSD capable of achieving the 16TBfocusing its development around the external unit that we have seen, offering the same design but with a much higher capacity than what we can currently see.

It is clear that this can be a great advance, although the problem with SSDs remains the same, the price they are capable of reaching, taking into account that in these units we can see that the TB costs practically €100. That is why it would not be strange to think that if they manage to reach the goal of offering 16 TB of external storage through an SSD, it could cost more than €1,200.
